The 60th NBA All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Staples Center. The Staples Center, considered one of the world’s best arenas for sports and entertainment, have been selected to host NBA All-Star Game 2011, marking the fifth time The City of Angels and the second time Staples Center will be the site of the annual celebration. The other three editions were played in 1963, 1972, and 1983. The first one in the Los Angeles Sports Arena and the next two in the mythical Forum of Inglewood. Big stars like Bill Russell, Jerry West or Julius Erving won the MVP in these editions. The NBA All-Star Game is a game held annually between the top players in the Western and Eastern Conferences of the National Basketball Association. “Its state-of-the-art facilities, passionate fans, and first-class hospitality and entertainment options make Los Angeles an ideal host for NBA All-Star,” said Commissioner Stern. “We thank the city and STAPLES Center for welcoming us once again.”
“For one week, L.A. will become the basketball capital of the world,” Stern said. “It is always that way at All-Star, and it’s one of my favorite events because not only does the world focus on us, but our legends come in and it becomes part of a family reunion, and this is a big deal for us.”
“We’re likely to shorten the rotation a bit because it’s getting more difficult to find cities with the kinds of amenities, close hotel accommodations, the convention center and the like, and L.A. has been a popular destination,” he said.
