“Fire in the hole, Enemy Spotted, You take the point, Enemy down” this shout comes from one of the best-selling games for the year 2001, counterstrike. A first-person shooter where you get to play either a Terrorist or Anti-Terrorists, trying to either obliterate all your opponents or meet specific objectives. Counterstrike is just one of the few games being patronized by gamers, other games include; Red Alert 2, Starcraft 2, DOTA All-Stars, Need for Speed, Splinter Cell, just to name a few. When I was a kid I remember playing games in a Family Computer playing Super Mario or a Galaga. When our neighboor brought a computer at that time I remember playing Carmen, Alladin and Return Fire. Somestimes I never go to school just to play games in our neighboor. Well, my parents thought I’m in school but actually I’m not. hehehe! I was kinda naughty at that time. And when I step up to college I also got addicted playing counterstrike, Red Alert, or Starcraft. I remember that my weekly allowance from Monday to Friday of 600 pesos at that time was already gone in Wednesday. Hahaha!
With the popularity of games in the market of teenagers and not so teen anymore, hundreds of Computer Game Centers have opened nationwide catering to the addiction of numerous people who want to feel the rush of competing against the computer and even against other people. Question is why are so many people so addicted to playing computer games? Simple. Computer games take you to a different world of entertainment. You get to choose who you want to be, where you want to be, what objectives you want to meet, whenever you want and most of all you’re in command! Add to that, it doesn’t hurt when you loose. You can start again. Gaming is a fast-paced industry with so many new developments happening at the same time. Game developers play significant role on how this industry is today and how it will be in the future.
