The upcoming bout Jean Pascal vs Bernard Hopkins 2 on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada is a top notch boxing event this 2011. A lot of expectation for this return showdown as everyone’s wanted a winner at the end. The bout headlined as “Dynasty II: Pascal vs Hopkins” follows the controversial draw result of their first meeting last December 2010. any respect that might have existed between Hopkins and Pascal has evaporated. At a press event at Planet Hollywood here, Pascal mocked Hopkins’ notable wins as victories against smaller fighters and barked that when they meet in May, Hopkins “better be on something because I’m going to bust your ass.” Hopkins, in turn, called Pascal “weak” and “stupid” and warned the packed room not to be surprised “if Pascal dies in the ring.” Hopkins is a master at exploiting weakness and it’s clear he perceives Pascal’s fear as blood in the water. When Pascal slammed his fist on the podium in punctuation, Hopkins sneered and covered his mouth in mock fear.
This budding rivalry with Pascal has reinvigorated Hopkins. His way could look a little different this time. Slick and crafty, Hopkins has not been in many wars in the ring, a fact that has contributed to his longevity. Against Pascal, Hopkins promises to be the aggressor. The man who once said he would retire at 40 now has a three-fight deal with HBO.
Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) is the current WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight world champion. He suffered his only loss to Carl Froch, former world champion. The 28-year-old Canadian Olympian moved up from super middleweight to Light heavyweight in 2008. He took the title on his first encounter with Adrian Diaconu and on the second fight, he still won it. He also won greatly against Chad Dawson. However, he got a controversial draw on his last bout against Hopkins.
Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) is the 46-year-old boxer who continuously proved himself in the boxing ring. He reigned the longest time in the middleweight division with over 10 years of fighting and 20 successful defenses. He defeated fighters like Howard Eastman, Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik, Enrique Ornelas and Roy Jones since turning 40 in 2005. He wanted badly to prove himself by defeating the one who give him a controversial boxing result.
Pascal vs Hopkins 2 is promoted by Groupe Yvon Michel Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions and presented by Casino de Montreal, Videotron and Coors Light. The boxing event will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing in the United States beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT and distributed live on pay-per-view in Canada.
