LG Electronics (LG) has unveiled the LG Optimus 2X, the world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor according to the Guinness World Records. Powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2, the phone is said to have smoother web browsing and applications speed of a laptop or desktop computer at 1 Gigahertz (GHz). The dual-core processor lets users open multiple applications simultaneously sans the screen lag and high 1500mAh battery consumption. At 9.2mm thick and weighing 3.8 ounces, the HDMI-equipped phone is even thinner than other premium Android-powered offerings and Apple’s iPhone 4. In that small frame is packed what we call a Nova display, the world’s brightest at 700 nits. The LG Optimus 2X offers 1080p HD video playback and recording with HDMI mirroring that expands content on external displays to full HD quality. Allows users to view content and play games with motion-sensing controls on an HD television. It also has an 8-megapixel back camera, a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, and a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible digital device such as HD TVs for a console-like gaming experience taking full advantage of the phone’s HDMI mirroring, accelerometer and gyro sensor.
Other function it also enables users to wirelessly share digital photos, music and video with any DLNA-capable device. The phone’s operating system is Android 2.2 Froyo, and can be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for free. It has also have a microSD memory expandability and Micro-USB port.
LG Electronics Philippines launched other smartphone the Optimus Black, said to be the company’s response to the increasingly popular iPhone. Priced at around P19,000, it boasts of a crisp, clear screen with LG’s NOVA display, giving maximum brightness and better outdoor visibility even under direct sunlight, according to the company.
The Optimus Black has a 5-megapixel back camera 2-megapixel front facing camera, and Wi-Fi Direct, which allows high-speed content sharing. Like the Optimus 2x, it is also powered by Froyo and is upgradeable to Gingerbread. LG’s lunching is what’s hoped to be a strong year for Google’ Android mobile operating system. Already expected to catch up soon with Apple’s iOS in at the premium end of the market, at least in sales volume, more modest versions will also invade the low-end, currently dominated by “featurephones” and Nokia’s Symbian OS.
I think the Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology. With unique features such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) mirroring and exceptional graphics performance, the Lg Optimus 2x is proof of LG’s commitment to high-end smartphones in 2011.
